How to Help Your Child Handle Exam Stress

Exams are stressful—but pressure isn’t always the enemy.

Schools use exams partly because life demands that we perform when something matters. The goal isn’t breaking-point stress. It’s helping young people develop the confidence and skills to handle pressure without being overwhelmed by it.

A useful framework is Tony Robbins’ three Ss: State, Story and Strategy.

State: Protect the body. Sleep, exercise, eat well and stay connected. A healthy body gives the brain a stronger platform for performing under pressure.

Story: Change the voice inside the head. Replace “This is a disaster” with “Here we go. Breathe. I’ve prepared for this. One step at a time.”

Strategy: Build a game plan. Know how to revise, how to begin the exam, how to manage time and what to do when stuck. Practise the process until pressure cannot erase it.

And prepare for setbacks. Every successful person fails. The difference is that they learn, reset and get back up.

Help your child build these habits now. Then exams become more than a test, they become training for life.

If your child needs help developing the mindset, routines and strategies to perform under pressure, message me. This is exactly what I help young people build.
